Frank’s Confessions About His Battle
Michael J. Fox has shared some forthright confessions about his battle with Parkinson’s.
“One day I’ll run out of gas,” he told Town & Country. “One day I’ll just say, ‘It’s not going to happen. I’m not going out today.’ If that comes, I’ll allow myself that. I’m 62 years old. Certainly, if I were to pass away tomorrow, it would be premature, but it wouldn’t be unheard of. And so, no, I don’t fear that.”
Fox has faced numerous health challenges over the past decade.
A Tumultuous Decade of Health Struggles
In 2018, Fox underwent surgery for a tumor near his spine, with doctors warning he might never walk again. After months of rehabilitation, he managed to walk again, only to break his arm months later.
Since then, Fox has endured several additional injuries, including a severe hand infection that nearly cost him his hand.
“My hand got infected and then I almost lost it,” he revealed. “It was a tsunami of misfortune.”
Fox has acknowledged that his time could come sooner than he hopes.
Reflections on Mortality
Earlier this year, in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Fox noted that falling “is a big killer with Parkinson’s. Falling and aspirating food and getting pneumonia — all these subtle ways that get you.”
He admitted that he doesn’t foresee himself living for another two decades, despite his strong will to survive.
“You don’t die from Parkinson’s; you die with Parkinson’s,” the iconic star added. “So I’ve been thinking of the mortality of it. I’m not going to be 80. I’m not going to be 80.”
